Landscape Project
Back in my studio after spring and summer travels. I decided to loosen up with a series of small landscapes. Each of these is on an 8” x 10” canvas board. I started by creating an active underpainting, pulling paint over the surface, lifting, applying resist, glazing…
Then I dove into my box of collage papers and just had fun. In this process I add collage papers and paint, responding to the image as it changes, keeping my palette simple. The interesting thing is, that without images to refer to, the landscapes that emerge are often familiar. As if they are already there in memory, maybe not in their details, but in their essentials.
I expand on these techniques and ideas in my self-directed Abstracting Landscape Course. This course is still on sale for $100 CAN ($50 off from usual price of $150) until the end of August.
